29 04 2008I just wondered if there was any interest in me setting up a forum here on the site. I’ve seen a few comments that people prefers to have a forum for discussion, which makes it a lot easier for both you and me to reply etc. The forum is just a way to keep questions and discussions that doesn’t have anything to do with the blog-post separated, and to make it easier for you to follow it without having to check out a lot of irrelevant posts.
I can’t do any sort of poll from the limited platform that word-press offers here, so just post your opinions about.

A forum would be nice, provided there will be moderators around to remove any unwanted spam. I get more than enough “you’re not a PvP spec noob” on the official forums as it is. Not to mention all the people on their high horses that argue only for the sake of argument… Disagreeing with someone if fine off course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the official forums are infested with people that are only there to provoke without actually breaking any forum rules. If you’re gonna set up a forum, please don’t be afraid to ban idiots like that.
+1 to forum, I’m bored of discussing feral pvp with offspecs or pvers. Make a feral’s corner!
Sounds like a killer idea. Druids could use another community, the locks have the warlocks den, but I don’t know of a good forum for druids. Go for it man.

I’ve been getting a bunch of spam that I have no way to filter - the form submittal bypasses everything on my server, and they’re using random or fake IP addresses so they cannot be blocked that way. All that have been coming in are done by someone using an automatic tool to complete and then submit my form. Is there anything that can be done to stop it? In Asia, the upward swing followed Wall Street, where investors breathed a little easier after a surprise jump in home sales in December suggested the battered housing market might soon stabilize.
Asian investors also were heartened by Wednesday’s report pointing to possible recovery in Chinese manufacturing. While manufacturing shrank again in January, the contraction was less severe than in recent months and seen by some as a sign China’s stimulus measures might be taking hold.
But with the global economy and company results still in dire shape, the move higher was likely to be temporary, analysts cautioned. Amid the hopeful signs came more gloom Wednesday from corporate bellwethers such as Australian mining giant BHP Billiton Ltd. and Japanese electronics maker Panasonic Corp.
“It’s a fictitious rebound. The figures are better than we thought, but they’re still bad,” said Peter Lai, investment manager at DBS Vickers in Hong Kong. “It’s encouraging of course, but it’s far too early to say we’re seeing a revival in the global economy.”
Japan’s Nikkei 225 stock average rose 2.7 percent to 8,038.94, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index added 2.3 percent to 13,063.89. South Korea’s Kospi was up 2.8 percent.
In Shanghai, the main index gained 2.3 percent to 2,107.75 as traders welcomed news the purchasing managers index, a key gauge of manufacturing activity, rose to a four-month high.

Shares in pharmaceuticals maker Roche Holding AG plunged 8.2 percent after it said its net income for 2008 fell by 5 percent — missing expectations — because of the strong Swiss franc, falling sales of its anti-flu drug and a drop in income from investments.
Its disappointing results dragged down other pharmaceutical stocks, including Sanofi-Aventis and AstraZeneca, which fell by 1.1 percent and 3.8 percent.

This is the first long-term investigation to show the link between fast food, weight gain and insulin resistance; it appears in the Jan. 1 issue of the The Lancet.
Ludwig and his colleagues produced an alarming sequence of statistics to show the toll obesity is taking in the United States. About 30 percent of Americans are overweight or obese, compared to only 23 percent during the period 1988 to 1994. The prevalence of overweight rose by 50 percent in children and adolescents during the past decade, to about 15 percent of all people in that age segment. And obesity is responsible for 300,000 deaths and $100 billion in annual health-care costs, according to the researchers.
The repercussions of obesity and type 2 diabetes continue far and wide. A new study by UCLA researchers found that advanced heart failure patients with diabetes who are treated with insulin have a death rate four times higher than similar patients treated with oral medications. Between 25 percent and 44 percent of heart failure patients also have diabetes, according to the study, which appears in the January issue of the American Heart Journal.
Because the obesity epidemic has come on so rapidly, most experts point to so-called environmental factors as the root cause. One such factor could be fast food. According to The Lancet study, fast food accounts for 10 percent of total energy consumed by children, up from 2 percent in the late 1970s.
Yet very little research has been done in this area.
“There have been no large-scale, long-term studies examining the health effects of fast food, which is surprising given that this is the dominant dietary pattern among children and young adults today,” said Ludwig. “In the absence of such data, the fast food industry is allowed to market their products without restriction to young children.”

The findings point only to an association between fast food and obesity and insulin resistance, not a cause-and-effect relationship, the researchers stressed.
Nevertheless, the link seems to make sense.
“Fast food inherently contains some of the worst aspects of a wide variety of dietary factors, including large numbers of calories served in very calorie-dense servings,” Ludwig said.
Caloric density, essentially the number of calories per bite, may be a key factor in this equation, Ludwig added. “Fast food is designed to promote consumption of the maximum number of calories in the minimum amount of time,” he explained. “This may confuse the mechanisms we have to regulate our appetite and the intake of food.”

There are ways to have fast food but not necessarily that will make you fat.”

The National Restaurant Association said it was unable to respond to the specifics of the study without looking at the methodologies.
But the group said in a statement, “At face value, the findings seem to support what we have maintained for some time.
